Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) leads West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey by a small margin, according to a poll released Tuesday.
Sen. Manchin leads Morrisey by four points49 to 45 percentin the heated West Virginia race. Thirty-six percent of West Virginia voters said they will definitely vote for Manchin, 11 percent will probably vote for the West Virginia Democrat, and two percent are leaning towards voting for him.
In contrast, 36 percent said they will definitely vote for Morrisey, eight percent will probably vote for the AG, and one percent lean towards voting for the West Virginia Republican. Three percent of West Virginia voters remain undecided.
An overwhelming number of West Virginia voters support President Donald Trump, and Manchin faces a tough re-election campaign in a state Trump won by more than 42 points in the 2016 presidential election.
Sixty-two percent of West Virginians approve of Trumps job performance. Among those voters, 55 percent strongly approve of the president, and eight percent somewhat approve of him. Only 35 percent disapprove of Trumps job performance, with four percent somewhat disapproving, and 30 percent strongly approving.
This newest poll shows a tight race between Manchin and Morrisey. A survey released last week found that Manchin and Morrisey have struck a virtual dead heat. The poll showed that Manchins favorability hit a new low: 45 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of Manchin, while 50 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of the incumbent Democrat.
Another poll from Morning Consult found that Manchin was one of the top ten least popular senators.
Morrisey has attacked Manchin for portraying himself as a conservative lawmaker in West Virginia and then cozying up with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other leftist politicians in Washington, DC.

Folks here in Ohio made lots of sport out of the people of WV. and Kentucky over the years. Lots of jokes, putting them in every possible way.. But I'll tell you this, nowadays it's the people of Ohio that come off like a bunch stumble bums.. Lousy schools, poor work ethic, drugs, you name it..!
Cleveland, Toledo, even the once conservative city of Cincinnati has turned to crap...
Car trunk close
So democrats just about obliterated the coal mining industry and West Virginians keep voting for them....sometimes you get the government you deserve. I guess stupid can be habit forming!!!
Might want to update your view of WV...
Without WV Al Gore would have been president.
Gun grabber Joe did vote for Kav.. he is still a gun grabbing leftist.
Trump Visit few days before election should do it.
Surprised that this is so close. Manchin should man up and switch to GOP.
Are you serious....Al gore would be president if he could have carried his own State, or any other state, nothing special about West Virginia.
I guess in the WV senate race, Trump wins either way!
Yes there is, unlike TN, WV had up until 2000, ONLY gone red for the RE-election of Reagan in 84, Nixon in 72 and Eisenhower in 56! It hadn’t voted for a first time Republican since 1928!
It was about as reliable BLUE as you could get until 2000... when it flipped and hasn’t gone back.
Had WV followed its historical norms of nearly 80 years, rather than vote for Bush in 2000, you have an Al Gore Presidency. The failure to realize the flipping of WV is what Cost the Dems... and it was the precursor of what was going to happen in 2016.... As the Dems walked away from the traditional working class white voters... The writing was on the wall in 2000... and they didn’t bother to notice.
If Manchin wins and I have said this before Trump and the GOP needs to go to him and get him to switch parties.
The people of WV need to understand Manchin was willing to destroy their industry.
He loves DC.
Part time resident of WV here. I see Manchin getting reelected, sadly. I think his Kavanaugh vote saved his seat.
People like to think of WV as a ruby red state, but it’s actually just a Trump Democrat state. How would you feel if your were a Democrat and your party was taken over by Progressive kooks? Many have left the party. Many are trying to take their party back and are voting for Manchin.
Manchin won’t oppose Trump on any of the big cultural and energy issues, but I’m sure he will on any spending issues. His biggest problem is trying to balance his state issues with the national party, which is basically impossible, but he’s trying. The idea that Tester is even completive in Montana makes a lot less sense to me than Manchin’s viability in WV.
And yet it still elects a democrat senator!!! Although half an apple is better than none!!!
YUP!
As a matter of fact we are SO low intel that we voted for President Trump to the tune of 42.2% more votes than the Beast. (68.7% - 26.5%)
Tell us FReeper "QuigleyDU", how did the voters in your state (the state you refuse to own up to on your about page) vote in the 2016 election?

Clean your own house first.
All,
I have explained this before Manchin thinks he can be President by remaining a Rat. I have talked to several people who know Manchin personally and have advised him to switch parties or even to do a Joe Lieberman and go independent. They completely agree with the following analysis.
” ..
After the Rat party implodes due to leftist extremism. Manchin thinks he can ride in to the rescue. Be the moderate voice in between the two extremes - Schumer/Pelosi - left & Trumpian - right. (Trump as a right wing extremist?? WTF?) He basically can do a 1992 Bill Clinton and “triangulate” his way to the nomination. Then to win the Presidency - he does a “Bill Clinton act” but without the zipper problem & harridan harpy wife and seize the “middle ground”. Well it’s not 1992, politics have dramatically changed. There is little to no “middle ground” now and Manchin does not have the political skills nor “elitist credentials” of a Slick Willie. He also doesn’t have a “Dick Morris” in his camp. He is fooling himself, keeping his seat is the best he can do. I hope he doesn’t but I think he will - barely!
..”
AMEN
Pelosi let him?!?!?!
BWAHAHAHAHA...do you even know what chamber of Congress you' re talking about?
You just worry about Baletta beating Casey and leave Manchin to us Mountaineers.
