That’s how Obama won his senate seat: His allies in the press sued to have his GOP rival Pat Ryan’s divorce records unsealed, after which Ryan voluntarily withdrew from the race because of some salacious sentences in the records, and a desperate Illinois GOP trotted out the hapless Alan Keyes to replace him and run against Obama. Pat Ryan was ahead of Obama at the time, and Obama — who was an ineffective state senator at the time, well known for voting “Present” — went on to win the race, after having been given the opportunity to showcase his ability read from a teleprompter at the 2004 Democrat convention.
