Here is something to consider: Does the category “middle aged” include men in their fifties? It should. Now get this: These are baby boomers, a statistical bulge, reaching the age when white men have traditionally had a relatively high suicide rate. I first read the stats on this in the seventies. Forty years ago, 55 year old white men were the highest suicide demographic. Seems to me it has probably always been thus. Short term explanations based on the past few years political BS will not suffice.
