It just goes to show that public figures should purchase their domain name.
Sorry if this has been posted but I wasn’t sure how to look for it.
I sure hope there is something he can do, about this.
I agree - why wasnt this domain purchased/locked out, by Kav or his advisors?
Sly how they wrote, and arranged the page. Would be difficult to pin them down. Very sly.
I don’t know about your name, but lots of people have the same name. There was another Bret Kavanaugh complaining to the news about people attacking him online and otherwise, because of name similarities. One Brett might purchase their domain name, but others would not be able to do so. About 30 years ago I searched the Internet and found almost 40 others throughout the country with the same name as mine, and this was for people active on the Internet as I was. I purchased domain names unrelated to my real name. Too many people with the same name, and confusion and false accusations can result.
I had an Uncle roadcat. Kidding.
Hi, Borges-
At the risk of sounding/looking like an opponent, there is nothing malicious looking about this site directly aimed at Justice Brett Kavanaugh. I think they were very careful about how they set up the website.
I’m looking on the bright side. There will indeed come a time when he will be looked at as an excellent Justice and the insane/angry/insulting reason they set the website up will actually be forgotten.
It may yet be used to forward the Conservative cause. And those putting up stories on this site may well regret it for once it’s put down in written format, those who are falsely accused on this site can go after the posters for libel. (I think it’s Libel.)
Unfortunately, those closest to Justice Kavanaugh probably never saw this coming as first, they knew he was honorable and second, were busy fighting with him for his honor to think of everything.
The big hope is that all other folks who are even thinking about going into Public Service think about purchasing their names/domains. I know I would.
Hi, stylin19a-!
Though I hope you are correct, doesn’t the website actually have to be showing it as a negative against the person?
Wait, would it be like using his name as a commercial venture? If they take any funding under his name on the site, would it might then be challenged?
So much evil these days and so sneaky.
You may have guessed that roadcat is my handle, not my real name. I was heavily involved in local car clubs, and had a nickname based on my real name, and roadcat is a twist on that car club name. But one of the most disconcerting things to happen as I grew up, is finding dozens of other people with the same exact name! But I haven’t run into anyone with my nicknames... well, maybe not so, if I ran into your uncle.
hey...wish I knew. I am sure there are a few legal eagles @ FR that might be able to shed some light on it.
Nothing much dumber than attacking a Laywer on shaky legal grounds, suicide to cross horns legally with a Judge and you have to fall out of a hundred foot tall stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down to pick a fight with a Supreme Court Judge!
It is a hard thing to do. Perhaps he registered ‘brettkavanaugh.com’, what about .net,.org..io,.xxx,etc? What about brett-kavanaugh.*, what about ‘brett_kavanaugh.* and bret_kavanaw.* (lots of people suck at spelling).
I also recall untied.com getting legal attacks from the US airline with a similar name (the site was about poor service by that airline). This was in the late 1990s. If you go to that site today it looks like they lasted until just a few years ago.
thebrettkavanaugh.*, thehonorablebrettkavanaugh.*, therapistbrettkavanaugh.*,....there will always be a domain name your enemies can use
Thought this was called “cybersquatting”? Or at least it was judged so when Mike Doughney bought peta.org for his “People Eating Tasty Animals” website. Perhaps the era of this going one way (towards the left) could finally end?
You may have a general idea.
Your comment made me curious, I searched my name online. One site stated that there were 253 people worldwide with my last name. So only one me. Using my maiden name (same site said there were 1,139 people with that last name) I found one other person with my name.
I had always hoped that Id get a more normal last name when I got married. I went the other direction.
Yep, I knew a guy named John Edwards, a Lawyer in La Jolla, CA. Being a lawyer, he owned the domain johnedwards.com. When Senator John Edwards was the front runner in the Dem primary back in 08, his campaign approached him about acquiring the domain. He is a hardcore dem, and gave it to them for free. If it were me, it would have gone to the highest bidder...
Ha-ha! You're lucky, only one hit on someone else with your full name. Me, I have lots of matches to my full name. But, they're mostly professionals and not crooks, which has me relieved not to be mistaken as someone else; some are famous, one is a famous jazz composer and musician, others are scientists or stars, etc. Me, I'm ordinary. My wife got my name when we married. So she starts getting billed for stuff, and disputes it. Turns out another woman was a patient at the same gynecology office she went to, and the woman had the same identical name but my wife was getting billed for everything. Yes, this stuff happens.
