Trump is right. Lee was a great general. Grant learned the hard way how to be a greater one.

Which seems to be the point of President Trump’s comments - but look at the headline.

Grant was commanding a professionally trained army...Lee was commanding an army that was fully half a rag tag group of men defending their homes. That's why Lee and his tactics is still studied at West Point!!!

Grant threw his men into meat grinders because he knew he could replace them.

Trump is right. Lee was a great general. Grant learned the hard way how to be a greater one. Had Lee equal resources, he would have quickly defeated Grant. Grant won because he had four times the manpower and four times the industrial support, such as train assets and ship assets.

“Grant learned the hard way how to be a greater one.”
Grant was tenacious with an unending supply line compared to Lee.

Lee was a great general. Grant learned the hard way how to be a greater one. Both men had learning curves. But both showed their genius early on.
