Grant did not take supply wagons with him into Mississippi. Grant went without resupply of any kind for 20 days.

I got that. He did so because he brought those supplies on the Ships that ferried him across the Mississippi. He calculated what he needed, and had his plan ran longer, he could have gotten resupply from those ships. Vicksburg is on the water is it not?

He conducted the campaign without resupply. What he may or might have done is of no consequence. He went 20 days fighting 7 battles before he laid siege to Vicksburg and there he was resupplied.
