This reminds me of Jimmy Carter's role in Venezuela. He and his foundation were hired to "validate" Hugo Chavez's election. He wasn't allowed into the election headquarters, his people weren't allowed to inspect any of the vote counts... there was widespread and gross vote fraud (and no recounts allowed...)
And yet he stood in front of the cameras minutes after the polls closed and pronounced the elections fair and honest. Its what he was paid to do, and he did it. Oh, and then he accused GW Bush of stealing the election as he stood there in Caracas on Hugo's dime.
I wonder if Chavez paid him in peanuts.
