Thats bound to be more accurate than the talking heads predictions.
“Camille was a shocking storm.”
Yes, it was rather shocking. I remember it well as I was in the middle of it at Keesler AFB, MS. It’s interesting that they now say “winds estimated at 175 mph”. I was listening to the radio that night and they said it was 195 where we were and 210 a few miles away. Whatever it was, it sure made a mess. I have a picture of a sailboat sitting on top of a gas station...
I live in Northwest Ohio, we have occasional tornadoes, but no hurricanes.
Bastardi was saying possible Cat 4 yesterday.
I remember hearing Camille was 200 MPH winds. I grew up along the coast and that’s pretty much the number I’ve heard.
Dude, The Pilots will walk out to the Aircraft, reach in and flip the Switch thats Labeled Stealth and everything will be just fine.
Tip of the outward bands reaching Birmingham, AL now.
Five Miles Out
Mike Oldfield
What do you do when your falling,
You've got 30 degrees and you're stalling out?
And it's 24 miles to your beacon;
There's a crack in the sky and the warning's out.
Don't take that dive again!
Push through that band of rain!
Five miles out,
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out.
You're Number 1, anticipating you.
Climbing out.
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out.
You're Number 1, anticipating you.
Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!
Calling all stations!
This is Golf-Mike-Oscar-Victor-Juliet
IMC CU.NIMB...icing,
In great difficulty, over.
The traffic controller is calling,
"Victor-Juliet, your identity.
I have you lost in the violent storm!
Communicate or squawk 'Emergency'!"
Don't take that dive again!
Push through that band of rain!
Lost in static, 18,
And the storm is closing in now.
Automatic, 18!
(Got to push through!) Trapped in living hell!
Your a prisoner of the dark sky,
The propeller blades are still!
And the evil eye of the hurricane's
Coming in now for the kill.
Our hope's with you,
Rider in the blue.
Welcome's waiting, we're anticipating
You'll be celebrating, when you're down and braking.
Climbing out.
(Climbing, climbing)
Five miles out.
(Climbing, climbing)
Five miles out,
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out....
(Climbing, climbing)
Five miles out,
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out....
(Climbing, climbing)
Climbing out.
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out....
(Climbing, climbing)
Five miles out,
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out....
(Climbing, climbing)
Climbing out.
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out....
(Climbing, climbing)
Climbing out.
Just hold your heading true.
Got to get your finest out....

Haven’t seen you around in ages. Didn’t know you still had the place near my old stomping grounds.
My daughter has to fly back home from Orlando tomorrow at 6:30 PM, she’s nervous that she’ll get stuck there. Looks to me she should be ok unless it veers more east overnight.
It’s fixing to get ugly here. We are hunkered down. My family in Fort Walton and Pensacola are doing the same. Y’all be safe.
They’re already moved.
Sorry...that was the F-22s at Tyndall
Your daughter will want to contact the airline before leaving for the airport tomorrow. She will want to make sure the equipment needed to depart Orlando is able to arrive from its origination. Her flight schedule may be fine, albeit storms have widespread ripple effects on air traffic.
Stay safe, and check in when you are able.
“Yep. But then, local grocery stores used to print tracking charts on the paper grocery sacks. I like the modern graphics we have now, but sort of miss listening to the coordinates being updated on the radio and jotting a new pencil dot on the grid. “
The newspaper used to print a double page map of the Gulf with Lat and Lon printed on for tracking storms. Dad had a plastic lid to a can of nuts he used to trace onto the map at the latest coordinates.
