Florida Democrats are calling for state officials to extend the voter registration deadline as Hurricane Michael approaches.
Florida Democratic Party Chairman Terrie Rizzo sent a formal letter to Gov. Rick Scott (R) and Secretary of State Ken Detzner on Monday requesting that they push back the deadline as Floridians prepare for the storm.
Tuesday is the state's deadline for eligible individuals to vote ahead of Novembers elections, but the impending hurricane will adversely impact the ability of these eligible, but unregistered individuals who may have waited until the last day in order to register to vote, Rizzo wrote.
Scott has already declared a state of emergency in 35 counties and residents have already begun evacuating along the Gulf Coast.
These individuals may forego registering, in view of your warnings regarding the danger of the storm as well as County evacuations, the need to prepare, and both announced and anticipated evacuation orders, Rizzo wrote.
Many local government offices are also considering closing on Tuesday in anticipation of Hurricane Michaels landfall.
The National Hurricane Center has predicted that Michael will make landfall between the Florida Panhandle and the Big Bend of Florida as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday.
It could bring life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds to the state.
All the looters will need to have their voting rights restored before the election.
For Godsake, they don’t miss a trick.
Now more than ever, I wonder why apparently half of the country backs these obvious shysters.
Well, they’ve got to get those fake registration folks bussed in.
But they are awaiting pay from Soros.
This has gone far enough. Tell the Dems to shove it up their collective Obamaholes. Many times.
It’s long past time for war.
They have had their entire lives to register. Too bad for you now.
fussing over voter registration isn’t the point; the point is that a hurricane is going to hit the panhandle — a massive bastion of reliable republican votes— 3 weeks before congressional midterms and a gubernatorial election.
someone in florida needs to be thinking this through.
Rust never sleeps.
You can register online in Florida, so this is a non-problem.
Of course, Scott has become a wuss, so he’ll fold like he did on the cursed gun law changes.
I posted something similar in the Hurricane thread..
sometimes power is out for weeks after major hurricanes..and I assume most polling stations are touchscreen not old fashion chads
Republicans don’t need extra time to register.
power is indeed a concern. and, if they evacuate the panhandle for any period of time, it could tip the state in a close election. if panhandle republicans are busy putting blue tarps on their roofs on election day(s), it could be something to worry about.
just a lot to suddenly worry about.
They always want something outside the rules, don’t they? Like say, yet another FBI investigation, “but only just for a week and then we’ll be happy.”
Please, Governor Scott don’t fall for this ruse!!!
Equal registration time limits must be enforced for both sides!!!
This is exactly the point of this demand. During the confusion of evacuation and then return, any number of ineligible people would be able to register, cast their votes on provisional ballots, and then serve as a basis for a challenge to the final tally.
Those Dims are sneaky SOBs.
I’m sure hurricane Michael will register and vote dem.
There is one ethnic group in America who are masters of this dysfunctional behavior. Ask one of these employees "why are you late?" "Why is the tool broken?" "Why weren't you here yesterday?" And the reply is always some elaborate tale of why it isn't their fault and everything is beyond their control, and fate and circumstances overwhelmed them.
Never, never, never do they ever accept responsibility. It's always someone else's fault. "I dindu nuffin."
Which is why you should never wait until the last minute to do anything important...
GFY, Florida Demonrats.
Not “sneaky.” Completely, maggoty, corrupt.
of course the state capital (very blue) is also in the path just inland too :)
