Suburban voters don’t like lower taxes, lower unemployment, and better business conditions? Elitists oppose anything that might make life better for the hoi polloi. They might show up in the elitists' neighborhoods.

That is so true. The rich libs have no desire to see the middle class move up and into their enclaves. They also avoid diversity like the plague, and force it on lower and middle class neighborhoods and schools.
