A writer for CBS's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Sunday apologized for her "sarcasm" in a deleted tweet about newly confirmed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Ariel Dumas on Saturday tweeted, "Whatever happens, I'm just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh's life." The post quickly went viral, as multiple conservative pundits retweeted it with critical commentary.

Dumas the next day said the tweet was a "tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm."

"The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally," she wrote. "The complexity of frustration, anger and sadness can’t be accurately conveyed on twitter, and I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it."

The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally. The complexity of frustration, anger and sadness can’t be accurately conveyed on twitter, and I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it.

— Ariel Dumas (@ArielDumas) October 7, 2018 She posted earlier in the week that she was "emotionally shattered by the current state of affairs."

Kavanaugh during his confirmation process over the past several weeks faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denied.

He was confirmed to the Supreme Court on Saturday.

Dumas' original tweet came as Kavanaugh was being confirmed.

She posted an article earlier in the week that criticized Kavanaugh for saying the accusations had "ruined" him.

"In his statements to the committee, Judge Kavanaugh said the allegations against him had ruined his life even though he may well be confirmed to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court," read The New York Times article by writer Roxane Gay, from which Dumas tweeted screenshots.

"The bar for a man's ruin is, apparently, quite low," Gay wrote. "May we all be so lucky as to have our lives ruined."

It was never sarcasm... it was 100% distilled liberal hatred...
