The long-term consequences of chaos in Syria would be dreadful. Iran would not be weakened - it is the Christians of the Middle East who would be - they would face another genocide. Also the Alawites, Ismailis, Druze, and a dozen other funny little sects, who have every right to go on living.
And depending on region, not all Christians in Syria think alike. Plus: the Russian Orthodox Church is as corrupt as ever so no amount of their faux-crusade propaganda will sway me.
This month in fact, Russian Orthodox reps will be paying an official visit to North Korea to celebrate 70 years of Russia-NK ties. The late Kim Jong Il (Kim Jong Un's dad) had an Orthodox church built in Pyongyang. Does this mean he loved Christians?! And on that note:
In Damascus, there is a mural, street, and park named for and dedicated to Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Un's grandfather and the founding leader of North Korea. Historically: Syria-North Korea-(Soviet) Russia were a triad of allied interests. The same dynamic exists today. And I assure you 'protecting Christians' is not one of them.
(Kim Il Sung with Hafez Al Assad.)
