“I missed my sisters wedding, as I was 13,000 miles away. In fact I didn't even know about it until a mom letter arrived a week later.” Yeh, had a similar experience but I was 13,000 miles away during 1965 - 1966. I can only imagine if I had approached my 1st Sergeant and had said “Top, need a couple weeks off to go to my little sis’s wedding”. Yes indeed I’ve, would have been a sight to see 🤯....

My 1SG probably had no clue who I was except for a name on his duty rosters for CQ and courier duty. I liked it that way.
