Mayor of Japanese city says memorial for women used as sex slaves in Japan is not historically accurate The city of Osaka has ended its 60-year sister city relationship with San Francisco to protest against the presence in the US city of a statue symbolising Japans wartime use of sex slaves.
Osakas mayor, Hirofumi Yoshimura, terminated official ties this week after the US city agreed to recognise the comfort women statue, which was erected by a private group last year in San Franciscos Chinatown district, as public property.
In his 10-page letter to San Franciscos mayor, London Breed, Yoshimura noted that historians disagreed about the extent of the Japanese imperial armys involvement...

Well, that’s some boo chit, right there.
They absolutely were engaged in the rapes of women by conscription and acting as pimps.
Eff em...
Good.
I am tired of Japan teaching revisionist history and demanding others to stop being accurate about it.
While Japan’s war crimes were not quite to the level of Germany’s, the Germans were forced to be far more retrospective of and to accept and repent the evil of their deeds. Indeed, the Germans continue to bear the shame of the holocaust. The Japanese however, were quick to move on, and never really accepted the shame of their horrible crimes. Of course, at this point, we are several generations beyond the acts, so it’s a bit like asking 21st century Americans to bear the shame of slavery. I say “a bit” because obviously, it’s only been 70 years, vice 150. Still, it would be good for Japan to accept history rather than minimizing it, i.e. apologize, then pretend it never happened.
Russian communist soldiers raped an estimated two million German women in 1945 . Union soldiers raped black slaves during the civil war . Obviously not condoning these acts but it happens ...Not just the Japanese .
Maybe Osaka should erect a statue of San Franciscos abortion industry horror... even if Japanese practice abortion and not contraception....

Or some homeless rich guy (making less than $100000 in San Fran) pooping on the sidewalk.
A suburban Atlanta city council virtue signaled by allowing some Korean businessmen to install a comfort woman statue in a city park. One of the city council members is of Korean heritage.
This was not viewed favorably by Japan.

I am told on good authority it may have been a significant factor in Toyota locating a major new facility in Alabama rather than Georgia.

Realize that the Japanese and Korean governments came to terms on this issue, but there are private Korean interests that dont like the terms, and are agitating to keep the issue alive. Local and state governments should stay out of controversies like this.
Jeezum McGee, WWII was over seventy-five years ago. San Francisco, let it go....
Evil has no ethnic barriers, at one time or other in history brutality rape and murder were had by all ethnic groups
As a replacement I nominate Shitterton, Dorset, England as the sister city for San Francisco. It’s much more aligned to the mission and environment of San Francisco.
And because of that guilt, Germans felt compelled to let in millions of Muslims who hate Jews even more than the Nazis did.
They should have dropped SF long ago for it’s LGBTWHATEVER parades and the poo in the streets.
True Japans crimes were not to the level of Germanys, but not for lack of effort. Just ask the late Chinese who had plague-infected fleas dropped on them, the people of Nanking, the boys on the Bataan death
March, etc. if it has more suited their purposes to build gassing facilities to slaughter their conquered peoples , rather than use them as slaves, they would have cheerfully done it. We beat the viciousness out of them, but they were a big bunch of truly demonic bastards
While I do agree that Japan really should accept some responsibility for their actions in World War II (though absolutely not to the degree of what Germany’s doing right now, that would just do them more harm than good...), and I am not fond of the whole “comfort women” thing that Japan did, I must admit I kind of have to side with the Japanese on this one, although for different reasons.
See, the thing is, the statues of Comfort Women have absolutely nothing to do with American history at all, so we really shouldn’t have statues either honoring or demonizing them. Maybe if Japan actually engaged in sex trafficking in America during World War II and it’s been proven such was the case, I’d see why “comfort women” memorials would work regarding reflecting on American history, but as it is, it literally has nothing to do with our history AFAIK, so I see zero reason why we should have the statues up. Same goes for the Vladimir Lenin statue in Washington state. Statues of King Louis XVI I can let slide since he WAS effectively responsible for our becoming an independent nation, so he does play a pretty big role in our history, but the comfort women, why have statues up that play absolutely no role whatsoever regarding American history? At least in some place like South Korea or, heck, North Korea even, or even China or Vietnam, that is directly relevant to their history.
