He was one of Bush's highest level White House staff - apparently even had access to the nuclear codes. Bush appointed him to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. Bush released a statement when he was nominated giving his full support. Why would the fact Bush knows him well and would continue to support him now somehow come as a surprise to you and just now give you "pause"? It would somehow make you feel better if Bush suddenly flipped and betrayed his old friend and confidant?
