“Any of you tech wizards know of a utility to sniff ones pc for spy crap like this ?
Specifically for Asus mobos”
the article says it’s essentially impossible right now to do that ...

Maybe if I can find the little bastard, get a nail set on it, and give it a little whack . . .

I was watching an action-adventure movie awhile back, it wasn’t all that good - but in it, the Chinese manage to pretty much takeover the US by shutting down all US devices and computers remotely via already embedded chip-foolery.

You have to watch out their new line of computers and phones, called “Trojan Horse.” /s

“Asus mobos”

Asus is a Taiwan company, I believe,

That's interesting. The sort of interesting that could cause a ship to have the network shutdown as soon as a triggering signal is sent leaving the ship nearly or totally defenseless.

[...and who are we indicting? RUSSIANS.]
While the Chinese are the main event, the Russians aren’t our friends, either. And we do sanction and indict Chinese agents, although news coverage is generally scant, because the liberal media’s lie of the day is that Trump is a Russian agent. But you can relax - the next lie they trot out will be that Trump is a Chinese agent. And then the coverage will focus on all the indicted Chinese who are currently being covered in tiny columns deep in the newspaper, if they are covered at all.

Dang, just skimmed that article - scary stuff, esp. re our military having that crap onboard.
Most of it was waaaay over my head, but sure reinforces my inherent distrust of anything ‘cloud’ related.
Not that avoiding it would help much other than make me feel like I was doing a little something defensive.
F’n Chinese.
The new Soviets.

I have a big distrust of the “cloud”.
That’s the way we’re going, like it or not.

Buying Bill,Hill, and Al was a cheap investment for the Chinese.
No doubt it paid big to them. We will probably pay even more someday courtesy of the three aforementioned. If/when they will most likely be rotting in hell.

Thats the way were going, like it or not. Not me, FRiend.
Other than FR, a couple weather sites, and the local college's streaming sports, my 'net usage is very limited.
Still use an old flip phone w/o 'net access, and it suits me just fine.
And not likely to live long enough to worry about the too distant future.
Just hope the young'uns can get things squared away before it makes slaves of all of them.

In the personal side, I avoid cloud stuff as best I can. Granted it seems to get harder to do.
I just finished a Udemy class for Security plus and it touched on cloud stuff and some of the potential pitfalls.

Any time I have to log in somewhere and the ping time goes from 40-50 ms to 200+ms, it’s a good bet your data isn’t staying in Kansas anymore, Toto.
