Hundreds of people lined up outside Mayo Civic Center in a chilly breeze Thursday morning for a chance to see President Donald Trump at an evening campaign rally.
T.J. Jergenson, 65, a retiree from Alexandria, Minn., left home at midnight for the long drive. He snagged a spot a few hundred people back in line.
“We need to support our president,” Jergenson said. “He’s a businessman. He knows where to spend money and where not to.”
The crowd was lively and festive. Some brought chairs and coolers for the wait. “We want Trump” cheers broke out sporadically and the song “Macho Man” was part of the soundtrack. There was a “YMCA” singalong.
Several vendors were selling T-shirts and buttons. “Trump 2020” was a hot seller.
“It’s history” is how John Gordon described why he drove from Ellendale, Minn., to be part of the throng. “I just want to hear what he’s got to say.” Gordon, 60, works at an Owatonna glass business.

Trump needs to go after Ellison and make it NATIONAL. Show Americans the raw hypocrisy of the left
I hope President Trump can move some votes to the Republican side.
He can and he will.
He needs to go after Ellison and wife beater Sherrod Brown.
Should be another packed house. Curious to see what he says about Dr. Ford, Democrats, and Ellison.
MN has not voted Republican since 1972
Trump lost 44.9 to Clinton 46.4. He has come closer then any other Republican Presidential Caniate in 45 years of turning MN
It has already been reported that the WH has handed out more tickets to this rally than there are seats.
What will be telling is, how many people will be standing outside, listening, possibly watching on monitors.
Gonna be a bit chilly in Rochester this evening.
One more visit to Minnesota would have given him 10 more electoral votes.
DJT coming to Cincinnati 10/12. No tickets available yet but I’ll be there. I was at his MAGA rally in Cincinnati in October ‘16. Standing in the Deplorables line was nearly as much fun as the rally inside.
And in MN that is less then margin of Twin City voter fraud manufactured by the DFL.
I think he’ll ignore Ford if he’s confident we have the kav confirmation locked up, her 15 minutes of fame are over (but hey she has her own wikipedia page now!)
Just make damned sure you vote next month.
The Mayo Civic Center holds about 8,000 in the main arena, but there other parts that can hold 3 or 4,000 more, maybe they’ll open up those areas. It would be kind of cold to stand outside to watch on a monitor.
Ought to be a good test, it’s a blue-ish area but still has a strong rural population.
But it would be telling.
