So we are back to the wise and time-tested morality of the puritans (the sane ones, not the writers of restrictions). Stay sober. Be a virgin until marriage. Fear God. Tell the truth. Choose your company wisely.
and another risk a man has is rejecting the advances of a woman. If you reject one who makes advances she gets her feelings hurt and her affection turns to rejection and hate. She becomes a woman scorned and she will try to ruin you. So you could be damned if you do and damned if you don’t. The me too movement has given women a powerful weapon in today’s environment.
The actual Puritans really get a bum rap. Read David Hackett Fischer's wonderful book Albion's Seed:Four British Folkways in America (America: a cultural history)
The Puritans were concerned about how a society hangs together. They believed in God, but also believed in marital happiness (including sex), believed in drinking beer, invented and played baseball, etc. See Massachusetts Sport Ways: The Puritan Idea of Lawful Recreation
That does not hold true today. There are many court cases already for rape within marriage, consent, or lack thereof in the marriage bed, is held under close scrutiny. Sad but true.
