Michael Orbino, 42, was found not guilty of all felony hate crime and harassment charges by an Ontario County jury after a four-day trial. According to court testimony, Orbino was at Baker Park in the City of Canandaigua screaming racist slurs at two African-American high school girls.

Were these ‘African American’ HS girls visiting canada or where they ‘African Canadian’ HS girls.
Canandaigua is a small city in the Finger Lakes region of NY. Southeast of Rochester.
The article claims this event was a hate crime worthy of severe punishment for name calling. It also seems to have taken place in Canada. The article claims the “victims” were African-American. The question on everyone’s mind is, were they not, rather, African-Canadian? (See how silly this sounds?)
Ah. Ontario COUNTY not PROVINCE. my mistake
Agh... beat my by two minutes. GMTA!
While I do not condone this kind of behavior, I am sure the high school girls will get over the slurs being screamed at them a lot quicker than the several dozen people who die violent deathes in the ‘hood durng an average weekend in Chicago.
This is Ontario County in Upstate NY. I get that all the time when I call in to Dell, HP, etc. they think I’m calling from Canada. Since you can’t go directly across Lake Ontario It’s about a 2 hour plus drive from here to the Canadian border.
Any jury I'm on where the DA has charged "hate crime," is an automatic "not guilty."
No problem, people in Rochester make the same mistake and their counties border. Lots of places named Ontario around this area of NY. There is Lake Ontario, County of Ontario, Town of Ontario, Village of Ontario, Village of Ontario Center.
I looked up the origin of the name and it comes from the Huron Indians. Odd because this area was Seneca Indian.
It seems as though half the story is missing. This may be intended as an update, but doesn’t inform those who never heard about the case.
What, exactly did he say? Did the girls behavior prompt his remarks or was there no prior relationship? What were their ages? What was their response?
What did they mean by ‘stalking?’
I’m not all that concerned. It’s just a story on the net to me, but I had expected a little more.
to be honest it was the first I’ve heard of it and I work in IT for Ontario County. Seems like it was quite hush hush. All I know is someone shouldn’t be thrown in jail and face a grand jury for hurling insults at some teenaged snowflakes.
Some teenage girls will put the Sass in Sassy.
14 years old, trying to look, act and sound like they’re 19.
I don’t know if this was the case here or not.
They were independent enough to move about the city unsupervised, so they couldn’t have been too delicate.
Hurons and Senecas are in the same linguistic group. A Google search including both tribes is informative. One example:

today’s young people are selectively delicate.
They have mostly been given 0% responsibility yet 100% authority by their parent(s).
They have been given “mini-spouse” status by their parent(s) and have had the bar of expectations lowered into the ground in compensation for being “from a broken home.” (TM)
Also known as “guilt” or “Disney” parenting where the parent befriends the child instead of training them. They are often abused as adult confidants but given no basic lessons in life; they are devoid of all reality.
A look at his mugshot would tell you he has a drug/mental health problem. Interviews with his neighbors indicated people have purchased guns and put up security cams because of him and that he has verbally accosted others without provocation.
The heavy charges kept his ass in jail until he was no longer strung out on street drugs and back on his regular medications. Then the jury kindly found him guilty of lesser charges and time served was sentenced.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
“Any jury I’m on where the DA has charged “hate crime,” is an automatic “not guilty.” “
AMEN!
FREE SPEECH can’t be “HATE” speech.
The only thing I remember of ROC is the penny arcade in the charlotte beach area in the early 80s. oh, and the ‘can of worms.’
The Penny Arcade closed in 2009. The beach is still there. The Can of Worms was fixed and is much less wormy. Instead of needing to cross multiple lanes of traffic to stay on the same highway, there are ramps and splits. For the most part you can maintain the speed limit.
To me it was overkill. He could have been arrested on disorderly conduct, menacing perhaps then sent to drug rehab. No need to trot out the dog and pony show of Grand Jury, DA and “Hate” Crime.
