“Of the three Latinx leading roles, none were given to Latinx students. Several white students were cast in Latinx supporting roles, and some Latinx students who auditioned were not given any role in the show, even though white students were cast in ensemble roles.”
What is Latinx? Is this a new word?
I think so ... I vaguely remember reading about it some time ago here on FR.
Latinx is the generic group identification of what used to be called "Latino" or "Hispanics". Somewhere along the way, females .. Latinas .. took offense to being referred to generically as "Latino" because, to them, that was the masculine form for someone with a Latin-American background. So, now, if referring to females, it's "Latina"; to males, "Latino"; and to the group, generically, it's become "Latinx".
If someone else can explain that better than I can, please do so. I didn't realize how difficult that would be to write out ...
Do you think it might be like Spandex, but made in Puerto Rico?
Latinx is obviously a cross between an Hispanic and a lynx.
