Glaciers are still receding and land is still rising from the lost weight of the glaciers.
It has been going on for the last 20,000 years.
That's back when New York and the northern part of North America were buried under ice up to 2 miles thick by the glacier known as the Laurentide ice sheet.
And I would entertain the idea that the physical North Pole was once right smack dab in the middle of the Laurentide ice sheet at that time.
And you are right, it is a long slow process of colder/warmer periods but in the bigger picture it has still been warming up from the last Ice age.
But that has now leveled off and heading downward according to the ice studies. We are at a maximum interglacial and heading back into a glacial.
The timeline is like clock work and it is time once again...
