Stupid gas. That’s what they were missing in 1492. They could have held on to Granada and expanded, if only it hadn’t been for a stupid gas shortage. With stupid gas, they could have called Queen Izabella and King Ferdinand Islamophobes, and they would have immediately back-tracked and taken down their stonework encampment called San Francisco, backed up and gone back to Castille, or Aragon, or wherever, and saved the name for a city with lots of crazy people in the New World, right after Captain Colon discovered it with their help.
