The use of “me” instead of the pedantic “I” is better too, to answer another poster. A Brit told me one time that if anyone said anything like “It is I” in England they’d be laughed at. I agree with the spirit of using “me.” It’s what people (usually) say—and write.

William Tell's post #100 said,

"I believe that Ford's intended meaning was, “Both were 1-2 years older than me and both were students at a local private school.”

If her intended meaning was that--and it seems like the more likely reading to me--another option is "than I was."

I probably would've used that one. It sounds natural in both speaking and writing, at least in my experience, and it probably wouldn't offend the either the Expert Editors or the Pedantry Hunters.

"than I was."

One of the practices I use (perhaps taught to me) is to add the auxiliary verb.

One might say, "He was older than me", incorrectly.

One would probably never say, "He was older than me was".

Totally correct I believe would be, "He was older than I was old", but most would agree that this sounds redundant.
