Yeah, and I wouldn’t put it past them for some terrible accident to occur, which would allow them the opportunity to fill several openings.

I agree completely. It’s a little-known fact that Congress gets to set the number of Supreme Court seats. So under your scenario, the Dem’s could increase the number of seats to, say, 15. Then the Dem president could appoint 6 more justices.
In the old days, that would have been seen as unethical and dishonorable. Even FDR couldn’t get away with it. But now, hey, it’s just being part of the “resistance”.
