If I were Grassley I would just announce that this entire thing is a charade and hold the vote tomorrow.

Grassley is caving because he's part of the charade. He'll allow anything, even testimony not under oath, to allow her to speak. Why? Because if she speaks it gives cover for the usual rinos (as well as other republicans up for reelection) to vote "no" to show that they support women.

Note that in McConnel's speech yesterday he promised and up or down vote, but he's no longer saying Kavanaugh will be on the court.

Not confirming Kavanaugh is McConnel's and Grassley's way to make this go away since Kavanaugh won't withdraw. It's all about protecting their asses and they don't care who is discarded along the way.
