Few first ladies have been more prepared for their close-ups than Melania Trump.
Yet the former model has not graced the cover of Vogue, Glamour or Cosmopolitan during her husbands first 20 months in office. Neither has she yukked it up with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel or other late-night TV hosts.
Thats a huge missed opportunity for the Trump White House, says Lauren A. Wright, lecturer in politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University.
Others insist Mrs. Trumps low pop culture profile smacks of media bias that extends to other women in the Republican administration. [Mrs. Trump] has this toolkit that makes her a unique, powerful surrogate. Its so rare for a White House not to take advantage of that, Ms. Wright said.
The modern first lady routinely graces the media landscape in creative ways. Michelle Obama, for example, appeared on the popular Carpool Karaoke segment on CBSs The Late Late Show with host James Corden. The Atlantic noted Mrs. Obamas appearance and described her banter with Mr. Corden as lively and watchable, but definitely driven by an agenda.

Im glad they arent making money off her.
When those rags put Chewbacca as a cover and ranting how beautiful she was you knew it was over. The wookie is simply the face of hate.
Melania isn’t sad. Believe me.
True.
They are self-satisfied hypocrites who hate good people.
We are deplorables or dregs. Wal Mart NASCAR hillbillies with a gun and a Bible. They are so sophisticated. Phooey.
Before the inauguration they should have had sincere quiet interviews with the First Family and honestly given a chance to Trump despite disagreements. Like we all did with Obummer.
No chance of that. Hate ruled all the time.
I so thoroughly despise them I can barely contain myself. I have to until the war starts.
I’m sure she wouldn’t dream of it and finds them just as loathsome as we do.
Of course not, it’s all about the former First Transexual Michael Obama right now.
Our beautiful First Lady should not lower herself by yukking it up with entertainers who hate her husband and have made jokes about killing him. We know who she is, and we admire her.
Exactly!!!She has way to much class than to wallow in the filth they represent.
Vogue, Glamour. Hmmm. Maybe the First Lady knows a little more about the world of modeling and the fashion industry than we do and she refuses to be associated with it anymore?
Will they be going to jail, too? Human trafficking, #MeToo?

You’re right; there is no reason to lower herself to appeal to what passes as “pop culture” today.
It has become very clear that one of the major divisions in our society today is between people that live on magazines, TV and such and those that don’t. The latter know the purveyors of this trash have nothing but contempt for them and their way of life.
The author seems to believe that this is due to Melania not wanting to appear in these publications or on those shows. I strongly suspect she’s not been asked, so strong is the political bias in the media. Not that she’d accept either, but I do strongly suspect there have been no invitations.
