As of this year, in order to purchase ammunition in CA from a retailer, you have to pass a “background check” much the same as if you were to purchase a gun. Then you are issued a “license” which you must produce each and every time you buy ammunition.

No that law will take effect Jan. 1st 2019, if the Kali DOJ can figure out how to license everybody.

Right now only ammo sellers have to be licensed. I buy all the ammo I want here in Kali. Also, ammo is cash and carry atm. No ID at all.

You may be correct on the implementation, but I know that you can no longer buy ammo outside the state. I used to purchase my ammo from a place in Nevada and have it sent UPS. You can no longer do that. And it is now unlawful to “import” ammunition into CA.
I have found that most ammo in CA is overpriced.
