Age of consent, where you can never be charged with “endangering the welfare of a child” is age 18 PERIOD.
If you are a 30 year old male and you have sexual relations with a girl who is 16, even if the age of consent is 16, you still can be arrested and tried and go to prison for “endangering the welfare of a child” because you still did not get the permission of her legal guardian. All age of consent does is just keep you from getting the statutory rape charge.
All age of consent laws do is keep 17-19 year old boys from going to jail for having sexual relations with their 16 year old girl friends.
18+ will keep a 30 year old male out of jail.
