“But they are already above the 150k/y rate”

Correct, they are doing around 250,000 yearly now and want to increase.

People are too down on Tesla. I’m thinking about a Tesla. Right now, the Model 3 is only selling the $50k+ models. I’m more interested in the $35k model which isn’t being produced yet.

Tesla is 100% made in the USA with a majority USA produced content.

I will take a real car, like the 720hp 2020 Shelby GT500.

***********
Sure they’ve ramped production ... they lose money on every car.. How are they going to “make it up?” Volume? that only hurts them... They will have to make the severely money losing base model 3 soon because they’re almost finished building the upscale #3’s they had orders for...

Lutz is right .. and who knows failure when he see’s it better than Lutz?

Don't hold your breath.

The $35,000 Model 3 was just on paper and for marketing purposes, but the reality is that, it will never be a real option.

How meaningful is that number?

Why not try total sales dollars versus total cost of operations? Any idea when they'll break even or start being profitable? Profitable on their own without government subsidies and breaks to automobile purchasers. Can you give an assessment that way?

I know people who own Tesla S models... 2013 or 2014 vintage... and they sure aren’t down on them, they absolutely love them. And as you might guess they have owned some expensive and high performance cars in the past. Just don’t get into a wreck because there are a few repair shops handling them and the wait for parts can be longer than you imagine.

Their consensus on the Model 3 is that you should only buy it with the extra battery pack.. I guess that’s the 50k version... other than that they think it compares favorably with the pricier S Model.

The first guy I know who bought a Tesla S used to drive Porsche 911s.. he said his Tesla is the fastest damn car he’s ever owned, it will pin you to the seats.
