I agree. No one who was raised in the US could make such a mistake, but then Obama wasn’t raised here, was he? Whether or not he was born here is another matter—there is no disputing that he grew up in Indonesia, not the U.S. He doesn’t remember baseball as a kid, or for that matter, church bells. He remembers the call to prayer. I know he went to h.s. in Hawaii, but that state is a bit of an outlier when it comes to being America.

He didn’t simply say 57 states. He made a whole story around it, with none of the numbers adding up in a way that suggests it was a ‘slip of the tongue’, but rather a slip of the brain.
