It’s also worth noting how “fact-checking” sites like Snope handle this sort of thing.
Republicans are slammed for any misstatements. But any misstatement by a Democrat is minimized, or explained away.
Example: Obama says there are 57 states.
Snopes: Obama was “obviously tired”.
Example: Hillary claims she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, although she was born before Sir Edmund became famous.
Snopes: “this tale was likely a little white lie concocted to curry favor with the public for a special occasion back in 1995”.
Snopes held out hope for YEARS on that Hillary lie even saying that it was possible that her mother had lied to her about the origin.
So Rush, Sean, Fox and Friends etal don’t explain Trump lies and mistatements away?
Also look at how Snopes handles its coverage of Martin Luther King’s plagiarism of his dissertation. Rather than deal with it by itself, it is lumped in with three other more demonstrably false issues, so that the page reads “mostly false,” while the section on the plagiarism grudgingly admits this claim has “some element of truth to it.”
