My father died 6 years ago, in the aftermath of the Holocaust. Nevermind the fact that he never even visited Europe until 1979 - he died in its aftermath. One of my grandfathers died in July, 1944. In Minnesota. But he'd been to Europe, most recently in the 1860s. My other grandfather in 1942 or 43, his European travels about as recent. But in Chicago. If I'd thought of it, I could have run for office. Though it wouldn't have mattered till the post Obama years of enhanced sensitivity.
