On August 20, 1961, we were headed south in our Edsel Villager station wagon near Fort Collins, Colo. when a tune was played on the car radio that got my attention. I thought it was probably a live skit by performers at the radio station, but the story related by the singer stuck in my mind.

In 2012, 51 years later, I heard the song again, for the first time since 1961, on Willie's Roadhouse, the country-western station on Sirius Satellite Radio. I was amazed that I could still remember it after more than half a cenetury.

The song is Po' Folks by Bill Anderson, a hit on the country-western charts in the late summer of 1961.
