But they are also all “reflectors” not “refractors”. Yerkes was the biggest they could make as a refractor. Any bigger the glass would deform under it’s own weight.

My brother-in-law did all the design calcs for the first AO scope in Hawaii, when he worked at Livermore Lab. Then he moved to Hawaii to develop the operational proceedures.
(now he gave up on the feds, and works foe Raytheon)
