I think they left something out of the picture...
EXACTLY! Ridiculous that somebody would write this article.
Of course, you can take it even further like the Israelis do. The machine gun on the roof is a nice touch. Those Amazon workers could use it to beg their bosses for a bathroom break after eight hours in the cage.
Slightly modified personal lift unit you can see in any home depot. They put the cage on because for what they pay... They get people too stupid to put on a harness and not fall out of the basket.
A neighbor was an orthopedic surgeon who did scheduled knee and hip replacements, but he also pulled on-call emergency duty. He said the worst cases he ever operated on were farmers pulled into farm machinery. Often there wasn’t enough left to attach.
That makes sense.
Oh, I used one of those in a parking garage in Toledo, late 70’s. Fun, if you’re careful...up four, down four. Don’t drop yer beer!
The cages are a safety feature, corporate safety from injury claims. If the diagram is accurate, I guarantee some nitwit will find a way to tear off an head or leg with that robot arm.
Most likel the units will be non functional most of the time. They have more disabling sensors than a space shuttle, and take as long to get serviced.
Ever see three monkeys try to hump a football...? Watch three freight kids try to figure out that a sensor has a gum wrapper stuck in it.
We had a forklift accident last winter. Poor kid got his foot almost cut off. They saved the foot, last I heard. Thankfully, I was not there... but they did make all operators watch the video multiple times.
Worst thing that can happen, harming an innocent through accident. From my observation, both parties equally contributed to the incident. Lack of awareness, and comfort with a 6,000 pound moving machine.
Godspeed
You're right. What an amazing time to be alive...
