Tennessee Waltz: How Marsha Blackburn Can Stop Phil Bredesen
PJ Media ^ | September 6, 2018

Normally red Tennessee of all places -- a state Donald Trump won by 26 points -- is very much in play in the 2018 Senate race. Phil Bredesen -- a popular former governor opposing also popular Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn -- is running a smart, stealthy campaign. Democrats and their media friends are naturally pleased. New York magazine details the strategy:

....Bredesen’s opponents are making sure everyone knows about the “D” next to his name. So far, though, he’s been careful to fly far underneath the national radar, garnering a tiny fraction of the headlines and online virality surrounding someone like Beto O’Rourke, the Texas congressman running a long-shot bid to take out Senator Ted Cruz. That’s Bredesen’s plan to avoid the national party’s stain. He has proceeded with a purposeful calmness, quietly cementing front-runner status in the Senate race — both in polls and among prognosticators — even as national Democrats cultivate a campaign that’s much louder, more combative, and more fractious.

In other words, Bredesen is telling Tennesseans he will govern in the Senate just as he did in the governor's office back home -- as a pragmatic centrist businessman . This is a lie, although Bredesen may not realize he's telling it (or is conveniently ignoring the obvious). In fact, it's impossible. Even ten minutes watching the Kavanaugh hearings reminds us of what we already know. We live in an era of the most extreme partisanship. There are no middle of the roaders in the Senate. It's not allowed, virtually verboten, especially on the Democratic side.

If he’s got a “D” after his name, he’s going to vote the way Schumer tells him to vote.

Marsha Blackburn is not a Bush League Republican, so I expect the Bush League Republicans to help the Democrat win.
They have done so repeatedly.
They only want amnesty Senators, they don’t really care what jersey they wear.

There’s a good pro-Marsha ad running now that has President Trump stating at a rally that Bredesen will vote with Charles Schumer 100% of the time and that he supported Crooked Hillary. More of that, please. It has the advantage of being completely true in all respects.

Her other main ad is against human trafficking. That’s all nice and everything, but is anyone in favor of it? If the intent is to show that the open-borders plank of the Dem platform encourages human trafficking, then the ad needs to spell it out.

Negative advertising might work sometimes but there is an overload of it. Stop already! Blackburn’s ads need to give the reasons why people should vote for HER and not the negative why not to vote for bredesen. Bill Lee won the primary because he didn’t get negative.

If you have to hide your part affiliation, something is very wrong with our party.

Don't fall for it, y'all.

Our Governor, Tax-It-All-Tommy Wolf, did the same thing. But he's as loopy-Left as they come, and now we're stuck with him.

I think Marsha Blackburn is a fence sitter, going with the prevailing winds. She came to my area of East Tennessee and only met with RINO’s at an expensive get together with TPTB. Don’t want Bredesen; however, he did come to this area a couple of times and met openly with commoners. Bill Lee’s ads tell me nothing about him. He’s a little too syrupy for my taste. No politician is that good. Guess it’s a “hold your nose” voting season.

Marsha will win PERIOD! That poll that came out a few months ago was from a former Black College that is filled with libs and radicals and the spin on their web site is, they are diversified, which means the college is desperately looking for non blacks. So their the Poll results were bogus. The campus according to friend of ours who visited it a couple of years ago for a full scholarship for their daughter fount it trashed and dirty looking. Needless to day they left without a doubt she wasn’t going to go there.

We live in Shelby County and that will be one of the few counties that will turn blue for the former 70 plus has been governor but it will go narrowly blue. Folks are well aware of his record and don’t fall for the dems spin is centrist-which is pure hogwash!

The Tennessee GOP is VERY left of center and far from conservative. Corker, Alexander, Baker, Haslam, Sundquist all country club big government liberals who ran as conservatives. The Democrats may win this one with Bredeson because he comes across as a moderate and surprisingly gutted TennCare.

He will of course vote with ChuckU Schumer but if he is perceived as a common sense Rat he could win. I loath the day I voted for Don Sundquest when he ran for re-election. The John McCain if Tennessee.

This is why I don’t understand when people say they vote for the person, not the party, and also, they don’t have a party affiliation. It’s ALL about the party, whether they like it or not! When they get to Congress, the elected all fall in line with the party they are members of — well, not necessarily the Republicans, but the Democrats sure do. That’s why I like to hear Democrats say they vote for the person and that they are independent, which is a prelude to them voting for the Republican.
