I was living in Davison, Michigan (Moore’s hometown near Flint) in 1989 when his first film Roger and Me came out.
The film featured Rhonda the Rabbit Lady, who was famously depicted raising rabbits at her home and selling them “for pets or meat”. She skins one on camera while talking to Moore about her economic difficulties.
About a year after that film came out I met Rhonda.
She was slinging hash in the cafeteria at Kmart on Belsay Road. The big fat schmuck made her the star of his movie, cashed his check and took off for Hollywood, leaving her to skin rabbits and feed Kmart shoppers.
Great story about Rhonda the Rabbit Lady - I remember her from the film... often wondered if he helped her out. Now I know. Thanks Buckeye.
