While in engineering, I have hired a number of Navy petty officers who have served on nuclear boats. I have found them to be highly adaptable, used to short learning curves, attention to detail, and excellent work ethic.

Yep.

The problem is that they have both a different language, and different order of career growth/skill acquisition. Recruiters and HR have even less of an idea of what they are reading than normal, and military skills tend to be very compressed (a lot of experience in a short amount of time) and practical - so even years of experience may not translate well.
