I’ve devoted much of my professional life to the study of political campaigns, not as a historian or an academic but as a reporter and an analyst. I thought I’d seen it all, from the bizarre upset that handed a professional wrestler the governorship of Minnesota to the California recall that gave us the Governator to candidates who die but stay on the ballot and win.
But there’s a new kind of campaign underway, one that most of my colleagues and I have never publicly reported on, never fully analyzed, and never fully acknowledged: the campaign to destroy the legitimacy of the American news media.
Bashing the media for political gain isn’t new, and neither is manipulating the media to support or oppose a cause. These practices are at least as old as the Gutenberg press. But antipathy toward the media right now has risen to a level I’ve never personally experienced before. The closest parallel in recent American history is the hostility to reporters in the segregated South in the 1950s and ’60s.
Then, as now, that hatred was artificially stoked by people who found that it could deliver them some combination of fame, wealth, and power.
Some of the wealthiest members of the media are not reporters from mainstream outlets. Figures such as Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, and the trio of Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and Laura Ingraham have attained wealth and power by exploiting the fears of older white people. They are thriving financially by exploiting the very same free-press umbrella they seem determined to undermine.

No, they have attained wealth and power by providing commentary that reflects easily observable reality, and telling us the parts of the story that don't square with "the narrative," rather than contriving novel ways of "journalistsplaining" up is down, black is white, and traditional morals and values are bigotry.
Unlike most of the media, they have not forgotten their job is to "inform" us, not "correct" us.

FOXNEWS is not perfect, but anyone interested in history and education should watch from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. You will learn about the cultural problems which are big enough to take down this country and you will see representatives for both sides, so that you can make up your mind about where you want America to go..What you want her to be. No one can watch hours of TV every day, but if you DVR whese programs, you can pick and choose the segments which interest you. I guarantee that you will benefit much more through watching these than you will by watching the news day in and day out. We just watch our local news and let the rest go. Actually, FreeRepublic and Drudge cover all the news worth knowing anyway. I am not that interested in Drudge anymore, either. Also, Fox&Friends, is good. Those who mostly populate media, entertainment, academia and, unfortunately for America, many of the tops spots in these areas, are the first generation to be totally schooled from kindergarten through college in the hands of too many leftist indoctrinators. They look down on the Judeo-Christian values which built this nation and kept us free from Civil War after we freed the slaves. Now, they do not have enough knowledge and discernment to know that what they are sowing, they will reap in the whirlwind which is to come, right along with the rest of us. The victors of the coming unrest and, even, war, will be people not like them or us. Meanwhile, enjoy every single day of the freedoms we have left, for the memory of this nearly 300 years of unbelievable freedom, unknown, for the most part in prior history, will soon be lost. The left will destroy and try to wipe it from history’s memory for it’s very existence is a threat to their hoped for dictatorships. Read history. It tells the story, plainly and clearly. Uncivilized human nature NEVER changes.

I’m 70, have seen much of it.
I’ve not yet given up on defeating them. Others feel the same way. That frightens the crap out of them.
Their fight must consist of showing us how truthful and balanced their reporting is. I can’t wait.
