Arbitrator rules that VA misused Accountability Act in disciplining employees
WASHINGTON This week the Trump administration was delivered another blow against its attempts to undo our apolitical civil service system and dismantle unions across the country. In a recent decision by an independent arbitrator, the Department of Veterans Affairs was found to be in violation of the existing Master Agreement between the VA and the American Federation of Government Employees by improperly implementing the VA Accountability Act.

If you’re able to read past “our apolitical civil service system” without spewing, you win a cookie.
You can be forced to allow your employees to unionize but you are not forced to have employees.
Ah, the self appointed nomenklatura speaks.
“You can’t fire us or reduce our pay, only we are allowed to do that”
Did the Trump Admin say anything or did they just ignore it ?
Yeah, that phrase stopped me too. In this country, you cannot get any more political than the unions are....
A lot less “apolitical civil service” employees would be fine by me.
So does this mean the dead weight / worthless VA employees can’t be fired again?
I wasn’t. I also doubt the arbiter was unbiased. I trust nothing in our legal or political system any more, especially the legal system with its corruption and political judges.
Evidently.
Thank god the republicans are in charge and can fix things like this./ s
Every time a ‘bell rings’ an angel gets his wings.
Any time a UNION employee gets canned, the union loses dues and the DNC takes a hit also.
(Kind of makes one wonder if the RINOs are also on the Union ‘take’ - they are fighting PDT)
Civil servants and working for the people sure has taken a nasty turn.
Even before Unions it was almost impossible to fire a Govt worker once they had some ‘time served’.
With the passing of the VA Accountability Act, VA management has used that to go after Employees, the Act was intended to weed out bad managers.
I have yet to see very many bad managers fired, most just move to other agencies, within the Government, or allowed to retire.
I work for the VA and it is in total Chaos right now. One policy changed 7 times in 3 days!! The employees are NOT being informed about the changes and these are being implemented without any planning or thought. Management is NOT providing the resources to make these changes. I've never seen a bigger mess in my life.
Employees are quitting/terminated faster than they are being replaced. This is having a direct impact on patient care. And Management isn't working to solve the problems. At least where I work the VA is getting a bad reputation for creating a Hostile Working Environment. We are having a hard time replacing those employees that have left. At last count we were down around 50 nurses and 10 or 15 doctors. Their answer is just work more Overtime. I'm already worked 50+ hours a week.
If you abuse your Employees, they will leave and find others jobs.
