I am sure other presidential candidates met with foreign heads of state. Candidate Obama, in 2008, met with leaders such as Afghan President Hamid Karzai, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
These meetings are designed to give neophyte candidates foreign policy "gravitas".
