Why do some public officials get this kind of treatment – Kennedy, McCain, so forth – and others get no treatment whatsoever.

Because BOTH of them spent their entire careers trying to destroy America, Americans, and everything related to Freedom and Prosperity for Americans and the American way of life.

Compare the treatment of McCain to the subdued and modest coverage of the death of Neil Armstrong. Obama did nothing special for Armstrong. The politicians, like the MSM, love to glorify themselves and their importance. McCain accomplished very little as a legislator.
