The answer is quite obvious: Hillary Clinton had to be protected at all costs. The Clinton charity had to be protected at all costs. The legacy of Bill Clinton had to be protected at all costs. Finally, the work of the first black President had to be protected. It was understood that if honest work were done at the FBI and DOJ then Hillary Clinton would have to be indicted; as would her retinue that surrounded her at the State Department and the DNC. The Clinton Charity boondoggle and all its foreign donors would surface and be the subject of legal actions taken both at home and abroad. An investigation into illegal payments to Bill Clinton would be undertaken, plus his involvement in the Uranium scandal could not be avoided. Finally, the exposure of the corruption within the DOJ, FBI, DOS, CIA — and other functions within the Obama administration (all approved by the President) — would be a tremendous blow to the Democrats and to the Deep State greater than that suffered by the Republicans under Nixon.

Thus far the Democrats and the Deep State have managed to postpone their Armageddon. But this situation cannot last much longer. Who could have guessed that when Donald Trump fired James Comey that the Deep State edifice would be so damaged? Mueller must act soon. Every week there are new developments that threaten that edifice. Today was the report that Mueller’s ace lawyer was involved in the early effort to deep-six Donald Trump. What will tomorrow bring?

HRC is or should be expendable. The Clinton foundation is trivial, in the grand scheme of things. This does not explain it. The sum total of Democratic politicians does not explain it, they are all penny-ante grifters, they are expendable. There is always another penny ante grifter. An even the apotheosis of Trump would spare most of them.

And for that matter all the senior bureaucrats scattered through Washington are expendable - they all have successors, not much different than they are, who would be glad of the chance to squabble for the open seats.

There is something else.
