If McCain was worthy of the CMH he would have been awarded it long ago. Without doubt he is a warrior hero of honor and a piss poor pilot. I am in awe of McCain the pilot and honorable warrior but that is a different subject. Yes, the North Vietnamese broke him. You can break any man and this should not be a stain on his record. He came back from captivity a broken man and this explains what McCain was.

I had the privilege to speak to one of the Helicopter Pilots that was portrayed in the movie, “We were Soldiers Once and Young” He did receive the CMH. I asked him why he did what he did, taking ammo in and wounded out. He did not have to do this and actually ignored orders. His answer was simple, he said, “I took those boys in and needed to take them out.”
It was a reunion of old chopper pilots of which my dad was one. He wore his CMH but was actually rather embarrassed about it. He only did it because all the other old war dogs insisted he do so.

Awards like this should not be given out just to make peace with politicians. It’s a slap in the face to real military heroes.

He did NOTHING 'heroic' to JUSTIFY being 'given' the MOH.
