Purely a survival move as the Democrats cannot afford to be stuck in DC fighting losing battles when they could be out fighting for their periled seats.
Actually the closer the Kavanaugh confirmation date is to the election date. the worst the Dems will do... because their bases antics will anger and motivate the non traditional voters to show up for the sole purpose to vote against them.
