A common method of destroying mines is to attach an explosive to it, which could also account for “it blew up”. My guess this Wednesday morning is that it was a fake since it is riding too high to be a normal naval mine. But, better safe than sorry.
Any excuse will do. When you have explosives you gotta blow something up. That’s what you do.
