...On the Democratic side, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum's victory was the most unexpected of the night, as he defeated centrist former Rep. Gwen Graham. His victory represents an upset for the progressive wing of the party in the final stretch of 2018 primaries...
...Gillum hadn't led in a single poll, but was able to harness the progressive energy to beat Graham, a famed political scion in the state whose father had served as governor and senator. Sen. Bernie Sanders campaigned for Gillum and drew more than 1,000 people to a rally in Tampa earlier this month. Gillum campaigned on repealing the state's controversial Stand Your Ground law, Medicare for all and raising the minimum wage.
Gillum would be the first African-American governor of Florida if elected, and he becomes the second black Democratic gubernatorial nominee this year in the South, joining Georgia's Stacey Abrams.

Some of us noticed that DECADES ago
Looks like they changed the headline to “Progressive Upset Means A Sanders Vs. Trump Battle For Florida Governor” as of now.
This means DeSantis is a shoe-in.
Of course, but there are still millions of white Democrats who are just figuring it out!
Yes more than 100k GOP votes than Dem votes. Also interesting, every FL Metro area went for Gillum, while all but Tallahassee went for DeSantis.
The strange thing is that it doesn’t seem to dawn on them that attempting gaslight us into believing that our side is “doomed, doomed, I say!”, they also depress the energy on their own side with complacency.
Did any Republicans cross the line and vote Gillum to ensure a Ron DeSantis victory in November? Hmm?
Congrats Governor Ron DeSantis!
The votes should be counted again.
Are you guys sure that the Dim’s Black base and liberal virtue signaling voters won’t be energized? If they are, it could be trouble for the Senate run of Scott, too.
I honestly don’t know what to make of it. Certainly some of it is an attempt to influence the election by pushing a candidate.
But it is very easy to look at the polling data and see where they get it wrong. They always over-sample Democrats larger than the registered party affiliation gap, and larger than the party affiliated voting rate. Even when they include a very large independent voter sample, they try to “balance” it using false assumptions that independents break farther to the left than they do.
They also over-sample states like CA and NY where there will be a larger number of independent votes leaning left, but this is not going to give you good inside into the EC results.
These are either intentional methods used to get the results they want, or a perfect example of the types of biases that can go into statistical sampling.
GrayFox is also right, in this last election the Democratic/Media campaign was so demeaning to Trump voters (deplorables! idiots!) that many people simply did not tell the pollsters the truth.
It should, But the republicans have to play like they are behind. They should not take anything for granted.
YES! Perfect message!!!
We don’t really know the intent of the voters... are there any dimpled chads to help figure it out?
Sure, but when enough middle and upper class democrats start adding up the taxes from a socialist like this, its a different story. This guy is far far left . This is what Pelosi/Schumer want to avoid at all costs.
This win just showed how FAKE Real Clear Politic’s polls are.
NPAs (you’re truly included) didn’t even show up at the polls today.
Florida goes red.
“Start running ads on how Medicare for all will destroy Medicare for Seniors who paid taxes all their working life to earn it”
Republicans should be running that in every state, instead of the anti-pelosi garbage ads.
