A Denver mom says her 9-year-old son died by suicide in their home on Thursday after experiencing bullying in school. She is now sharing the story in hopes of shining a light on bullying and suicide, KDVR reports.
Leia Pierce says bullying was a factor in the death of her son, Jamel Myles, who started fourth grade just last week. Over the summer, Jamel came out to his mother as gay, she said. "(H)e looked so scared when he told me. He was like, 'Mom I'm gay.' And I thought he was playing, so I looked back because I was driving, and he was all curled up, so scared. And I said, I still love you," Pierce told the station.

I’m not that old, and I think I was in high school before I understood what gay was.
She should have at least warned him that his classmates might reject his new found fondness for queerism...
At nine years old all boys I remembered wanted nothing to do with girls because they were Icky. We all wanted to be members of The HE-MAN WOMAN HATER’S CLUB.
When we turned 13, we began to notice the girls were developing, nicely! Suddenly they weren’t Icky anymore.

Well, from the story as posted here it doesn’t seem like she did that at all. It seems like she said OK that’s fine and let him go to school and then missed that he was being put through such hell by his school mates that he killed himself, but perhaps he confided in his sister.
I agree with the other poster who said there’s something fishy about this story. And like most other “phobic” stories we’ll probably find out there’s been some hoaxing here.
Of course it is dreadful that this boy killed himself, but to your point I think Mom should have been WAY, WAY more aware. Way more.
Reminds me of the old joke about the kids who found a Playboy magazine and saw the centerfold.
One kid took off running screaming. the other kids caught him and asked what was wrong. He told them....

If this was a workplace the employer would be facing a lawsuit.
Why are the schools not held to the same standard?
As an employer, I don’t have the option to only say I have a policy in place. The only thing that counts is a result of no harassment.
Poor kid. The person who put that idea in his head will face judgment of one kind or another.
There has been zero proof of the bullying at school and him being told to kill himself. The school and the police are looking into it and from their statements I think they are skeptical.
This story is far from over.

The mom wants us to believe she had no idea what was happening in school despite the son coming out to her and telling her he was going to tell everyone at school. Also wants us to believe he only told his sister and the sister didn’t relay this life threatening info to mom. Bullshit.
She is lying and on her Facebook she protests too much.
She’s covering up something. The school is skeptical as I’m sure the police are. Even the lib press is being careful to say this is the mom’s story as there is zero corroboration
The mom is on Facebook relaying direct messages from her dead son and started a fundraising page.

If it turns out the mom killed him and made up the story, the press will bury the story.

Children can be vile. A shame this poor little boy felt so alone and despondent that he took his own life. He was 9 years old, for pity’s sake! I bet he had been bullied for years. Rest in peace, baby boy. God has got you now.
Sad to see the loss of a life so young.
There is a whole lot of pertinent info that isn’t in this story. For two reasons.
The reporting is incompetent. And slanted by design. Be some serious funky smell if anyone digs below the surface.
I think if it was murder the popo will discover it quickly. Then again the Ramsey case was botched in Colorado so who knows.
As you say, the media gets a few days of conservative bashing then the truth will be reported on page 24D.
Not all of us, Yaelle. Out of my 5 pregnancies, only 3 were born alive. I mourn those babies to this day. I won’t mock any child so downtrodden that they see death as the only resort. My heart aches for that little boy.
