No hoops to jump through buying weapons as a diagnosed mental case?

Many states do not submit mental commitments to the NICS database.

Good grief! If we are going to have background checks, why isn’t history of mental illness (or lack of) one of the first things required to be in the database?

Privacy concerns? Worries that such screenings could turn political?

Only a court-ordered treatment of mental illness prevents one from buying a gun. Somebody going to a doctor and getting some pills to help them calm down or whatever isn’t part of it.
