The neocons became close to McCain in the 1990s, when they supported American intervention in the Balkans. According to the New Republics John Judis, the first sign of neocon influence on McCain came in 1999. McCain delivered a speech at Kansas State University in which he touted national greatness conservatism,

Best read yet on Mccain. He was clearly a sociopath.
Ha, ha. True. McCain was always ready to send US troops to fight for other countries. He was either getting paid or he had the Neocon arrogance that made them think they could run the world.
McCain was incredibly handsome in uniform.
That’s all I got.
see post five above.
He was also unbelievably accomplished in being self-absorbed.
All kinds of people come out of the woodwork with stories when somebody runs for president.
You haven’t read it, have you? Rolling Stone actually does great journalism much of the time.

How do they know that? Where's the documentation? Is it really so surprising that after 5 years as a POW, McCain might have gotten in on his own merits?
Rolling Stone actually does great journalism much of the time.
Sure.
Right
Much of the time.
McCain was a sociopath who went through life using other people for his own gains. He had an inflated ego and probably was quite narcissistic, loved being in the limelight. Treated others around him quite shabbily and had a very nasty mouth.
Lied about his POW experiences, and used lies about them to become a "hero".
If nothing else the quotes from others in the piece are enough for that simple knowledge.
